Want to know more about Vieques? Check out Part I of the series here. |
Vieques beaches are perfect, pristine and practically empty. I've been to Vieques three times and there are still quite a number I've yet to "discover." Here are the few that I have... |

SUN BAY: Popular with the locals, Sun Bay actually features "amenities" like picnic tables and restrooms. |

SUN BAY: While it's the most popular Sun Bay, is somehow never ever crowded. Too many other perfect beaches to explore! |

MEDIA LUNA: A peek through seagrape trees. |

MEDIA LUNA: If you keep driving past Sun Bay the next beach you'll hit is Media Luna, named for its half-moon shape. This is a great beach for kids with its calm, aquarium-like waters. |

MEDIA LUNA: Ideal for families. |

NAVIO: Bigger waves, great for boogie boarding. |

NAVIO: Drive past Media Luna and you'll hit Navio, whose energetic waves make it a popular spot of water activities. |

RED BEACH: Turn right for Red Beach (aka Playa Caracas or Playa del Corcho) and Garcia Beach. |

RED BEACH: A great beach with gazebos and interesing surf: bigger waves on one side and calmer waters on the other. |

RED BEACH: That little strip of white towards the middle-left of the shot is Garcia Beach. |

GARCIA BEACH: My definition of paradise...there's something in the water there... |

GARCIA BEACH: That's Red Beach in the distance. |

GARCIA BEACH: A native |

GARCIA BEACH: Another version of Their Day Tabblo |

BLUE BEACH: Some rules and regulations |

BLUE BEACH: A great beach for exploring, but bring water shoes! |

BLUE BEACH: AKA Bahia de la Chiva, as seen through a picnic gazebo |

BLUE BEACH: Brain coral |

GREEN BEACH: Or the path to Green Beach, on the western end of Vieques |

GREEN BEACH: One spot with shaded area |

GREEN BEACH: Another spot, no shade |

GREEN BEACH: Not a huge open beach, Green Beach boasts lots of private nooks and crannies. It's location makes it a perfect point for ogling mainland Puerto Rico. It's also a great beach for snorkeling, but I was a wuss |

GREEN BEACH: Another "nook" |

GREEN BEACH: The sand here is a bit rougher, so water shoes are recommended. |

GREEN BEACH: A brief tropical rain storm |

GREEN BEACH: After five minutes, the storm moves to the mainland |

GREEN BEACH: Keep walking around the bend on the right and you'll find deeper waters and choppier waves. It's pretty wild over there--wind is intense too. An important note about Green Beach: Leave before 3pm, before mosquitoes and other bugs come out in full force. |

ORCHID BEACH: AKA Playa de la Plata, with its super smooth waters |

ORCHID BEACH: Empty...how typical :) |

BLACK SAND BEACH: AKA Playa Negrita, accessible via a dirt road, but we had a special guide in the form of Hector Matos from Hector's by the Sea (check out my first Vieques Tabblo). This beach is accessible through their beach. |

BLACK SAND BEACH: This Caribbean beach on the southwestern coast of Vieques is a walker's paradise. You can just keep going and going and going... |

BLACK SAND BEACH: We had to scramble over some rocks to get to this beach, so beach shoes, again, are a must! The sand is a bit rough. I didn't realize that some sand got caught in my shoes and when I got back, I found that my feet were abraded pretty badly--so be careful! |

BLACK SAND BEACH: Interesting erosions |
